Wisdom teeth are also known as third molars are the last teeth to erupt. This occurs generally between the ages of seventeen and twenty five. A wisdom tooth that is at a standstill under the gums may become irritated. The gum tissue, that deceit over the tooth may harbor food debris and bacteria that gets trapped under the gum, resulting in an infection in the gums.

Depending on the size shape and location of the tooth, removal can vary from a simple extraction to a more complex extraction. With a simple extraction, there is generally little swelling, bruising and/or bleeding. More difficult extraction will require special treatment which may result in more bruising, swelling and bleeding. Nevertheless, the dental professional will provide you with post treatment instructions to minimize these side effects. The longer you stay and the older you get, there is the potential for more problems to occur. This is for the reason that as you get older, the bone surrounding the tooth becomes denser, making the tooth more difficult to remove. The healing process might also be slower.
